Winifred "Winnie" (Golberg Carlquist) Gunderson, age 83, of Perham, MN, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2007, at the Perham Memorial Nursing Home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2008, 1:00 pm, at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, with Father Joe Herzing officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Willmar, MN, in the spring. A time for visitation will be held one hour prior to the memorial service.
Winifred Claire Trombley was born November 25, 1924, in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Wilfred and Claire (Rogne) Trombley. She moved to Akeley, MN, to attend school and there she also married Ernest Golberg on August 22, 1943. Winnie entered the nursing field and was employed by Ah Gwah Ching, Walker, MN, and later Glen Lake Sanitarium. She married Fred Carlquist and inherited two beautiful step children with whom she continued a relationship until she died. Winnie was married to John Gunderson on September 8, 1973, and moved to Willmar, MN. She later moved to Park Rapids, MN, to the Frazee Care Center in Frazee, MN, and finally to Perham, MN. Besides raising her children, she raised beautiful plants, flowers, and vegetables. Her gardening expertise will be missed by her children and many friends. Winnie's Scandinavian recipes have been passed down for generations. She is also recognized as a caregiver and volunteer.
Winnie is survived by five children, Michael (Flora) Barrowclough, Minneapolis, MN; Lynne (Golberg) Cloutier, Park Rapids, MN; Ron (Sue) Golberg, Park Rapids, MN; Arnold Golberg, Iraq; and Patricia Golberg (Mark Thomton), New London, MN; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two step children, Leonard and Carolyn Carlquist; and two step grandchildren; and three step great grandchildren.
Preceding Winnie in death are her parents; three husbands; a daughter, Sharon Connors; and a granddaughter, Rhonda Cloutier.
