Verna Drummond

Verna R. Drummond, age 89, of Perham , MN , died Saturday, November 7, 2009 , at the Perham Memorial Nursing Home.


Verna Rose Mitchell was born September 6, 1920 , in Douglas , ND , the daughter of Guy and Anna Mitchell. Verna grew up in Florida , South Dakota , and eventually moved to Park Rapids, MN, where she graduated from high school. After graduation she worked as a chief operator for Northwestern Bell in Park Rapids and in Montevideo , MN . She joined into marriage on October 13, 1943 , to Lester “Blix” G. Drummond in St. Paul , MN . She lived in the Perham, MN, area until her death. In 1950 she began working for the East Ottertail Telephone Company until she retired in 1984.



In Verna’s retirement, she spent many hours quilting and was an active member of the East Ottertail Historical Society Quilt Club. She also enjoyed other crafts such as sewing, knitting, reading and crocheting.



Verna is survived by two sons, Dennis (Laura) Drummond, Frazee , MN ; and Jeffrey (Janet) Drummond, St. Paul, MN; a daughter, Debra (Chris Kihl) Drummond, Moorhead, MN; one sister, Billie Shuttleworth, San Bernadino, CA; six grandchildren, Dacia (John) Sciarrone, Danielle (Ray) Ferri, Shelly (James) Marzoni, Chandler (Angie) Drummond, Tony Drummond and Amy Drummond; and seven great grandchildren.



Preceding Verna in death are her parents; husband, Lester; son, Gregory; grandson, Aaron; and four sisters, Avis, Margaret, Neysa and Betty.
