Russel N. Thalmann, age 73, of Ottertail, MN, died on Sunday, July 8, 2007, at his home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 12, 2007, at 11:00 am in St. John's Lutheran Church, Ottertail, with Reverend Karl Weber officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 11, at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, MN, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm with a prayer at 7:00 pm and also one hour prior to services at the church.
Russel was born and raised on a farm and resort on Buchanen Lake in Ottertail, MN, the son of August "Pete" and Emma (Hanebuth) Thalmann on March 22, 1934. In 1955 he was married to Joan George and they lived in Wadena, MN, for seven years while he worked at the Wadena Bakery. In 1962 they purchased a farm in Ottertail where he lived the rest of his years enjoying farming, working at the Ottertail Elevator, and also spending twenty-one years at Tuffy's in Perham, MN. After retiring from Tuffy's Russel spent his days on his farm growing mushrooms, woodworking, and watching the wildlife that visited his farm. He will be greatly missed by his large family and many friends.
Russel is survived by his wife, Joan, Ottertail, MN; three daughters, Donna (Mark) Papenfuss; Debbie (Jerry) Elder; and Dianne (John) Rosenthal; two sons, Darwin Thalmann; and Duane (Lisa) Thalmann; eighteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Tony (Judy) Thalmann, and Delbert (Bonnie) Thalmann; and a sister, Anne (Howard) Koosman.
Preceding Russel in death are his parents; and a sister, Mildred Buchholz.
