Richard Buer

Richard Carl Buer, age 50, of Perham , MN , passed away of a heart attack at his home on Friday, December 26, 2008 .


Richard “Rick” was born April 27, 1958 , in Robinsdale , MN , the son of Carl and Bettyann (Benson) Buer. Rick grew up in Minneapolis , MN , Racine , WI , and Canandaigua , NY . He graduated in 1977 from Canandaigua High School . After high school he moved back to Minneapolis . He spent about a year working odd jobs and then he enlisted in the US Navy. Upon returning from the Navy he attended NEI College of Technology in Columbia Heights and received his associates degree and certificate in electrical engineering. During his time in school he worked construction in the summers which took him to Iowa where he met his future wife Genie.



Rick and Genie were married in 1984 and in 1991 he took a job with Land O’ Lakes and moved his family to Perham. Currently he was working in Moorhead at Advanced Engineering and Environmental Services as an Instrumentation and Controls Technician.



Rick enjoyed tennis, fishing, hunting, his dogs, the Vikings, hockey, and his life on the lake. He was very proud of his two children, Megan and Michael. He enjoyed listening to Megan’s piano playing and playing tennis with her. The hours spent hunting and fishing with Michael and the years he spent watching him play hockey were cherished times for Rick.



He is survived by his wife, Genie, Perham, MN; daughter, Megan; son, Michael; mother, Bettyann Ward, Finlayson, MN; father and stepmother, Carl and June Buer, FL; siblings, Sandy (Mike) Hamerski, CA; Chris (Bill) Olson, Brooklyn Park, MN; Doug (Yasuko) Buer, Japan; Carla (Jerry) Pedersen, St. Francis, MN; Beth (Bruce) Rekstad, Little Falls, MN; Jane (Jim) Perry, FL; and many nieces and nephews.



Preceding Rick in death are his stepfather, Keith; brother-in-law, Jerry; cousin, Phillip and in-laws, Ernest and Lorraine Svenson.



The void we all feel at his passing will never be fulfilled until we join him in heaven.
