Everett Nickolie Nelson, age 86, of Perham, MN, was called to his heavenly home on Thursday, December 22, 2005. He was being lovingly cared for by the staff of the Perham Memorial Nursing Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 27, 2005, beginning at 11 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church, Perham, with Reverend Paul Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Grove Lake Cemetery, Pelican Rapids, MN. Visitation will be Monday, December 26, 2005 from 5:00 ? 8:00 pm at Calvary Lutheran Church and one hour prior to funeral services.
Everett was born August 24, 1919 to Nickolie and Helen Emelia (Oscarson) Nelson in Belmond, IA. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Belmond. He graduated from Belmond High School and attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in St. Paul, MN for one year. He graduated from Waldorf Jr. College, St. Olaf College and Luther Theological Seminary. He was ordained into the pastoral ministry in 1945. Everett was united in marriage to Clara Lauretta Haugrud on August 30, 1942 at Grove Lake Lutheran Church in rural Pelican Rapids, MN. He served congregations in Ephraim, WI, Seneca, IL, Wessington Springs, SD, Kenyon, MN and Roland, IA. He was also involved in community activities including serving on numerous boards. After his retirement in 1984, he and Clara moved to the Perham-Dent area. He served ten years as interim pastor at many churches in this area. He entered the Perham Memorial Nursing Home in August 2002. He continued to be passionate about his faith and shared and lived it daily.
Everett is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Clara, Perham, MN; two sons, Jonathan (Jill), Marquette, MI; and Paul (Kathy), Mason City, IA; two daughters, Sharon (Daryl) Haarstick, Vergas, MN; and Mary (Dave) Thoresen, Lake Wales, FL; ten grandchildren, Stephanie (Brian) Zumbolo; Matthew (Kenza) Nelson; Kristin Nelson; Kimberly (Christopher) Simmons; Jeff, Mark and Thomas Haarstick; and Priya, Shristi and Jonathan Thoresen; and three great grandchildren, William, Isabella and Evan Zumbolo; three brothers, Norris Nelson, Fergus Falls, MN; Clifford (Elnor) Nelson, St. Cloud, MN; and Reuben (Ellie) Nelson, Belmond, IA; two sisters, Mildred Meyer, Toledo, OH; and Esther (Roy) Larson, Pelican Rapids, MN.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Pearl and Ruth.
