Raymond Card, Sr

June 22, 1919 — December 2, 2004

Memorial services for Raymond Card, Sr., of Perham, MN, will be held at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, on Sunday, December 5, 2004, at 1 pm, with Reverend Tom Mitchell officiating. A private family burial will follow in the Perham Village Cemetery. A time of gathering for family and friends will take place one hour prior to the memorial service. Ray died on Thursday, December 2, 2004, at 85 years of age, at the Perham Memorial Home.



Raymond Card was born on June 22, 1919, as the son of John and Elizabeth Card, in Washta, Iowa. At an early age, their family moved to Sioux City, Iowa, where he attended East High School. In 1942, Ray volunteered to enter the U.S. Air Force, where he proudly served as a veteran of World War II, stationed in India, Burma, China and the air offensive of Japan. In 1945, he was honorably discharged.



On June 6, 1947, Ray was united in marriage, for fifty-six years, to Catherine Jean (Shaver) Card. For many years, they owned and operated a bar in the Stockyard area of Sioux City. In 1963, they moved to Perham where they operated a restaurant. For many years, he worked at the Perham Cooperative Oil Company, retiring in 1985. Ray was a lifetime member of the Sioux City Riverside Masonic Lodge. Ray and Jean lived on Little McDonald Lake, rural Perham, for over 30 years, enjoying fishing, gardening and great neighbors. Ray, most of all, loved to be with family, care for his wife, cheer for the Vikings, Twins and his grandchildren?s sporting events.



Surviving Ray is his daughter, Susan Adams, of Perham, MN; two sons, Raymond Card, Jr., of Sioux City, Iowa and Bill (Lora) Card, of River Falls, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, Curt, Cory, Ty and Tony Adams, of Perham, MN, Casey (Sarah) Card, of Menomonie, Wisconsin, Cy Card, of River Falls, Wisconsin, and Eric Card and Stephanie Card, of Sioux City, Iowa; four great-grandchildren, Aleshia Meyer, Josh Meyer, Kiely Woehler, and Jackson Card and one great-great-granddaughter, Lilly Ann Ebel.



Preceding Ray in death is his wife, Jean, in 2003; his parents and five brothers, Ralph, George, Fred, Clifford and Paul, with whom he had an extremely close relationship.
