Palmer was born in Dalton, MN, on September 8, 1915, to Andrew and Lena (Toso) Pederson. He was baptized on October 3, 1915, and confirmed on March 29, 1930, at South Immanuel Church, Rothsay, MN. Palmer died on July 7, 2011, in Perham, MN.
With work hard to find during the Depression, at the age of 16, Palmer took a job with the Civilian Conservation Corps planting trees and building dams and dikes in various MN locations. In 1941, he was drafted into the US Army. He served in the medical corps in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. Upon discharge, in 1944, Palmer returned to MN and worked in a variety of roles. He moved to Carlisle, MN, and, in 1953, began working for the US Postal Service as a 4th Class Postmaster and owned the local grocery store. In 1960, Palmer moved his family to Perham where he was a rural mail carrier until his retirement in 1980.
Palmer married Deloris Kjono on May 15, 1948 and they had four children. Palmer surrounded himself with people all his life; relationships and hard work defined his life. He served his communities for many years - church councils, VFW Post 4020, Perham Public School Board, Rural Carriers Association, and Meals by Wheels are a few examples. Palmer was a life-long learner.
Palmer was a valued and trusted friend, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
