Opal Lucille Hegle, age 94 of Perham, MN passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Perham Living Nursing Home.
Opal was born to Herman and Anna (Solomonson) Nordin on August 4, 1927, in Wilmar, MN. She grew up in Rutland, ND where her father worked for the railroad. When Opal was 16, her mother passed away, and she helped raise her three younger sisters. Opal met the love of her life, Gerald Hegle, roller skating in Forman, ND. They were married on September 21, 1945, a marriage that lasted for over 70 years. They raised their family in Gwinner, ND.
In 1992, Opal and Gerald moved to a lake home on West McDonald Lake and then in 2002 moved to Perham, MN. Opal was an amazing baker and cook and was well-known for her lefse and buns. She lovingly and generously shared these with everyone she knew. Opal was a dedicated and faithful servant at both GA Lutheran Church in Gwinner and Calvary Lutheran Church in Perham.
Surviving Opal is her son, Mike (Carmen) and her daughter, Ann (Randy) Hanson; her daughters-in-law, Donna Hegle and Judy Hegle; her ten grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. Preceding Opal in death were her parents; her husband, Gerald; and her sons, Ken and Larry.
A Memorial Service will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church in Perham at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 14, 2022, followed by a time for fellowship. The service can be viewed virtually from Opal’s online obituary on the funeral home website.
Memorials in honor of Opal can be given to the Boys and Girls Club of Perham, Calvary Lutheran Church, or a charity of your choice.
