Norman Koller

Norman "Frosty" Koller, of Big Pine Lake, MN, age 83 passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 in Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Lakeland, FL.

Frosty was born Norman Frost Koller on October 15, 1932 to Norman and Clara (Frost) Koller at the family home in New York Mills, MN. Dr. E.C. Hanson delivered him and charged Frosty's dad $25. Frosty had a Sister Kirstine (Koller) Grace of Tucson, AZ.

Surviving Frosty is his wife, Carolyn M. Koller. They were married September 15, 1956 in Minneapolis, MN. Together they have three children, Norman (Cathy) Koller of Cherry Hill New Jersey, Keith (Beth) Koller of Grosse Ile, Michigan and Kerianne (Michael) Aub of Mt Laurel, New Jersey. Frosty and Carolyn have six grandchildren, Matt (Mina), Jill, Haley, Candace (Chris), Andrew and Derek.

After graduating from New York Mills with the class of 1950, Frosty joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Small Destroyer in Korea during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the New York Mills VFW.

After the Korean War, Frosty was honorably discharged and he attended the University of Minnesota. He loved the forests and therefore attended the Forest Management program and received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1958. He did additional study in Forestry at Penn State University, Purdue University, Michigan State University and the University of Oklahoma.

Frosty worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Indiana, Michigan, and Pennsylvania and was the Forest Silviculturist for the Superior National Forest in Duluth where he retired in 1989. He and Carolyn moved to their home and hardwood forest on Big Pine Lake. They have been wintering near Mickey Mouse in central Florida.

Visitation will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church, 619 3rd Ave SW, Perham on Friday, May 27 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a service of remembrance at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at church on Saturday, May 28 beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. After lunch, interment will be held at the family plot in Greenwood Cemetery in New York Mills. The New York Mills VFW will serve as the honor guard, greatly appreciated by Frosty.
