Norman Hayden, 86, from Perham, MN passed away peacefully in his sleep in the home where he had resided for the past 27 years. Norman was born on March 31, 1928 in Williston, ND to George and Ortense Hayden. He joined the army on January 20, 1951 and served in Korea. He married Lola Collings on June 29, 1953. They moved to Perham in September 1953 and farmed northwest of Perham. After he stopped farming he was self-employed as a carpenter.
Norman had many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed anything that involved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, cutting wood, and gardening. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lola Hayden; his three children, Deb (Chuck) Winjum of Mentor, MN, Rod (Dori Fugere) Hayden of Vergas, MN, and Cheryl (Tim) Wacker of Perham, MN; his 14 grandchildren, Tracy (Marie) Winjum, Chris (Leah) Winjum, Matt (Kate) Winjum, Kelly (Patrick) McShane, Jenny Hayden, Amy (Don) Tafa, Lisa (Tyler) Walters, Mandy Haugse, Zach Fugere, Sarah (Casey) Melgard, Luke Fugere, Amanda (Kris) Stade, Sarah (Andres Bendesky) Wacker, and Beth (Jon) Dahlheimer; his 17 great-grandchildren; his brothers, George Hayden, Bob Hayden, Dale (Diane) Hayden, Joe Hayden, Warren (Lonni) Hayden, Paul (Elaine) Hayden, Ed (Sarah) Hayden; his sisters, Edith (Gene) Iverson, Veronica (Dick) Bergeron, and Leila Bruni.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Ortense Hayden; his sisters, Collette Lukenbill and Rose Chapman; and his brother, Morris Hayden.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 25, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 PM with parish prayers at 7:00 PM at Schoeneberger Funeral Home. Visitation will resume on Saturday, July 26 beginning at 10:00 AM followed by the funeral mass at 11:00 AM at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Perham. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
