Funeral services for Norbert Edward Silbernagel, age 70, of Perham, MN, will be Wednesday, October 20, 2004, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Perham, beginning at 10:00 a.m., with Reverend Kevin Schwartz, Reverend David Rieder, and Reverend Jerry Nordick officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation at Schoeneberger Funeral Home in Perham is from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 19, 2004 with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Norbert died at the MeritCare Medical Center, October 15, 2004, in Fargo, ND.
Norbert was born the son of Gottlieb and Mary (Dietlien) Silbernagel, on August 10, 1934, in Dent, MN. On September 20, 1954, Norbert was united in marriage to Marlene Rickers at St. Francis Xavier Church in Lake Park, MN. He worked at Arvid Benson in Moorhead, MN and at Dakota Electric, in Fargo, ND, from 1954-1959. Norbert and Marlene moved to Minneapolis, MN, where he worked at Grinnell Plumbing and Heating until 1960. At that time, the couple bought a farm in Dead Lake Township and Norbert worked at the Dent Meat Locker until 1965 when they purchased a farm in Edna Township. Norbert and Marlene devoted their lives to their children and the family farm near Perham. They moved to Perham in 1990 and Norbert retired from farming in 2002. Norbert had a strong Christian faith and was an active member in Catholic Aid, Knights of Columbus and the Lions. Norbert enjoyed drives through the countryside, visiting friends, playing cards and playing pranks on his grandchildren.
Surviving Norbert is his wife, Marlene, of Perham, MN; three children, Lynette (Jerry) Sazama, of Arena, WI, Tom (Lisa) Silbernagel, of Perham, MN and Lenore Silbernagel, of Cross Plains, WI; nine grandchildren, Mechelle (Gary), Felecia, Jeremiah, Joshua, Jerrell, Marisa, Colman, Devin and Abram and many other relatives and friends.
Preceding Norbert in death are his parents; one brother, Walter and one sister, Marcella.
