Muriel Neu

March 13, 1955 - August 7, 2024

Muriel Theresa Neu, age 69 of Frazee, MN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 surrounded by loved ones.

Muriel was born March 13, 1955 to Kenneth and Rita (Krauth) Ludemann of Moorhead, MN. She was the eldest of three girls.

Muriel graduated from Moorhead High School in 1973 and married Gary Neu (also a 1973 graduate of Moorhead High School) in July of 1978 in Moorhead. After marriage, they lived in Moorhead, Salt Lake City, UT, Billings, MT, and finally moved to Wadena, MN in October of 1991, where they raised their three children: Christopher, Tyler, and Derek, all graduates of Wadena-Deer Creek High School. Muriel was a stay-at-home mother, running their three active children to their sporting events and concerts. Once the boys were older, she began her 20-year career as a secretary at the high school in Wadena. In 2010, they accomplished a lifelong dream of theirs and moved into a lake home located just west of Perham, MN and purchased a retirement home in Arizona. In 2013, they both retired at the age of 59 ½ and split their residency between Perham and Surprise, AZ.

Muriel loved golf, being at the lake, sewing, playing cards, following Minnesota sports, NDSU football, and snuggling with her grandchildren. She enjoyed laying out in the sun reading a good book, while getting a tan. She was an avid golfer, recording her first hole-in-one on February 18, 2018. She enjoyed taking golf trips with her Arizona friends every fall once all the snowbirds arrived again for the winter. Another highlight was her annual girls’ weekend with her mom, sisters, daughters-in-law, and niece and nephews’ wives.

Preceding Muriel’s death were her parents and her father-in-law Melvin Neu. Surviving Muriel is her husband Gary of 46 years; sons Christopher Neu of Fargo, ND, Tyler (Anna) Neu of Dent, MN, and Derek (Rachel) Neu of Frazee; her four grandchildren Bram, Niko, Maddux, and Oliver; sisters Cindy (Bill) DeHaan of Vergas, MN and Nancy (John) Eckl of South Saint Paul, MN; mother-in-law JoAnn Neu; brothers-in-law Steve (Cheryl) Neu of Bismarck, ND and Wayne (Michelle) Neu of San Marcos, CA; sisters-in-law Cindy (Dave) French of Grand Forks, ND and Laurie (Richard) Everson of Bismarck; along with many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 3:00-6:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 5:30 on Sunday, August 25 at Schoeneberger Funeral & Cremation Service in Perham.

In lieu of flowers, Muriel’s family requests donations be made to Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center.
