Mary Klein

Mary L. Klein (Piechowski), age 93 of Frazee, MN, formally of Rosholt, SD, died Sunday, September 29, 2024 at the Frazee Care Center.

Mary was born February 16, 1931 to Joseph F. and Florence (Harrington) Piechowski in Folsom Township, Browns Valley, MN. She grew up working on the family farm and attended school at Browns Valley and St. Francis Academy, Hankinson, ND. 

On June 7, 1950, Mary was united in marriage to Francis F. Klein at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Browns Valley. The couple were blessed with three children and lived on the original Nick Klein homestead, north of Victor, SD. Together, they raised crops, dairy and livestock. Over the years, various farming activities were conducted with the Bill Klein (brother-in-law) family, who also farmed and lived across the section.

Mary enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family, and friends. She and her husband liked attending farm shows, open houses, fairs, and parades. They also camped, fished, and motorcycled together. Mary was a devout Catholic, attended church regularly, and prayed the Rosary often.

Surviving Mary are her children Judy Westhoff, Francis A (Faye) Klein, and Audrey (Gene) Wischnak; grandchildren Mark Westhoff, Lisa (Bryan) Colley, Scott Wischnak, Jason (Elaine) Wischnak, Tiffany (Nathan) Anderson, Jennifer Pallas, Christopher (Nicole) Jensen; and numerous great grandchildren; brothers Joe Piechowski and Neil Piechowski; and many other relatives and friends. 

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Francis Klein; great granddaughter Jasmine Colley; siblings Stanley Piechowski and his wife, Dorothy; Angela Birchem and her husband, John, Leo Piechowski and his wife, Julie. Also preceding Mary in death were brother Neil’s wife, Doris; brother Joe’s wife, Darlene; and son-in-law, Leon Westhoff. Mary’s brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law on the Klein side are deceased.

A Reciting of the Rosary will begin at 9:45 AM on Friday, October 4, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church at 46404 Co. Hwy 14 in rural Perham, followed by visitation from 10-11:00 AM and the funeral mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery at Hankinson, ND at a later date.
