Martha Lehmkuhl

Martha Hamilton Lehmkuhl, age 92, of Perham, MN, died of a stroke on Friday, August 5, 2005, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Perham, MN at 11 am with burial in the church cemetery. Reverend Terry Grzybowski will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, MN from 4-8 pm and one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
Martha was born March 12, 1913 in Billings, MT to Charles and Olive (Sturtevant) Hamilton. She had one sister, Margaret (Walter) Nelson. Martha graduated from Frazee High School in 1931 and spent the next years working in Yellowstone National Park. Returning from Yellowstone, she then attended cosmetology school in Minneapolis, MN. She worked as a beautician at the Greystone Hotel in Detroit Lakes, MN. On May 20, 1939 she married Erwin Lehmkuhl at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee, MN. They made their home in rural Frazee where they farmed and raised turkeys. Erv partnered with his family in the farm implement business therefore moving them to Perham. During this time Martha worked at Richter's Sewing Basket and Hughes Department Store. After their children were grown, Erv and Martha began to travel, taking trips to California and Hawaii. After Erv's death, a new era began in Martha's life as she traveled extensively and continued her interests such as sewing, baking, hiking with the Perham Happy Hikers and volunteering at the Public Library for 10 years. Martha's bread was a favorite of her family's and considered a premium at any bake sale. Martha was a faithful follower of Christ all her adult years, teaching Sunday School, studying the Word and working in many service activities at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Martha is survived by her three sons, Wade (Cathie) Lehmkuhl, Bloomington, MN; Paul (Katharine) Lehmkuhl, Perham, MN; and William (Theresa) Lehmkuhl, Rochester, MN; eight grandchildren, Michele (Lehmkuhl) Moser, Steve Lehmkuhl, Scott Lehmkuhl, Melissa (Lehmkuhl) Soine, Daniel Doyle, Daniel Lehmkuhl, Lindsey Lehmkuhl and Lauren Lehmkuhl; and fifteen great grandchildren.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Erwin, April 24, 1983; and sister, Margaret.
Martha will be deeply missed by her family, many special friends and her Church family.
