Mark Alan Wright, 68, was born in Bottineau, North Dakota on March 13, 1952. He grew up spending his time between home in St. Paul and summers at the farm with his grandparents in Willow City, North Dakota.
Mark was the eldest child of six children between Stewart and Marjorie (Getzlauff) Wright. He graduated in 1970 from Sibley High School. He spent his early adulthood gigging with bands of friends in Minnesota while working other jobs to make ends meet. He really was a real-life rockstar!
He met the love of his life, Kim, in 2001. Mark and Kim were married April 12, 2003 and then their adventure began. With their union, came children that Mark cared for as his own. We all love and cherish the time we spent as a family with Mark.
Mark has always been a pretty private guy, but he is so special to each of us in different ways. Outdoor adventure guide, art teacher, father, husband, brother, friend, uncle, trivia wizard, music connoisseur, philosopher, and an all-around “neat” guy. He didn’t need to use a lot of words to convey his love for others. The only thing he loved more than people and music was being in nature. Mark fostered his love of the outdoors in others as well.
Mark was the missing piece of the crazy puzzle that is our family. His tender heart and ability to hold us accountable shaped us in enduring ways. We always joked that he must have been crazy to choose being a dad to us kids, but he was more than willing to take on the challenge. He always made sure we knew that.
Let us also not forget his signature mustache! He wouldn’t be our Funky without that. It is so difficult to capture the greatness of one man who has touched the lives of so many. Our lives will not return to normal, but we will do our best to be grateful for the wonderful times we shared with our dad.
Mark passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020 in Sanford Medical Center, Fargo North Dakota.
Mark is survived by his wife Kim; children Tony, Ashlee (Richard), Brittnee (Caleb), and James (Cassie); as well as his siblings Brian (Garnet Wright), Robin (Dave Schmitz), Teri Wright, Scott (Michelle Wright), and Diane (Daniel Doda). He also has nieces, nephews, and grandchildren that will miss him every day. He has many lifelong friendships that will ensure his kindred spirit lives on. Keep on, keepin’ on.
