Marie Anna Van Erp, age 97, of Perham, MN, died Sunday, June 19, 2011, at the Elders Home, in New York Mills, MN.
Marie was born on September 11, 1913, the third of nine children born to George and Johanna (Ruys) Boogaard, in Roberts County, South Dakota. At the age of 15 years, she moved to Butler, MN, with her family. Marie completed 8 years of formal education and continued to grow in knowledge and wisdom until the time of her death.
On June 6, 1933, Marie was united in marriage to Theodore Van Erp at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Butler. Their marriage was blessed with four children. Ted and Marie farmed in Butler Township until 1973 when they retired and moved to Perham.
Marie was a member of Christian Mothers at Holy Cross for years and held various leadership positions. Upon moving to Perham, she became a member of the St. Stanislaus Parish and, again, was active in Christian Mothers, Rosary Altar Society and St. Mary's Mission Circle.
After Ted's passing in 1989, Marie moved to the Lakeland Apartments in Perham and joined St. Henry's Parish. In 2008, she suffered a stroke and moved to the Frazee Assisted Living Community where she lived until her recent hospitalization and death. Marie loved being with people and enjoyed her friends and family.
Marie is survived by her son, Peter (Margaret) Van Erp, Bluffton, MN; two daughters, Cathy Lachowitzer and Mary Ann (Francis) Seifert, both of Perham, MN; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one brother, Clarence Boogaard, Marshall, MN; two sisters-in-law, Rosella Boogaard, Sauk Centre, MN and Evelyn Boogaard, Villard, MN as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Marie in death are her parents; her husband, Ted; one daughter, Johanna; son-in-law, Al Lachowitzer; five brothers, Cornelius, Albert, John, Henry and William and two sisters, Wilma Harrison and Helen Van Erp.
