Marian Pauline (Backstrom) Collins, age 81, of Perham, MN, died January 16, 2005, at her home. Funeral services will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Dora Township, rural Dent, MN, Wednesday, January 19, 2005, at 1:30 p.m., with Reverend Larry Schmidt officiating. Burial will take place in Silent Vale Cemetery, Maine, MN. Visitation at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, is from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 18, 2005, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., as well as one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
Marian was born, one of five children, December 27, 1923, at home in Maine Township, MN, to Palmer and Mea (Gustafson) Backstrom. She grew up and attended school in Maine and Star Lake Townships. Marian was confirmed at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Amor, MN, in 1938.
On April 3, 1942, Marian married Harold Collins in Pelican Rapids, MN. They raised a family of five children on the farm in Star Lake Township, rural Dent, MN. Following retirement, Marian spent many years gardening and enjoying the outdoors on the farm. In 1996, she moved into Dent and spent more time visiting with family and neighbors. Marian also enjoyed crocheting and quilting. In August of 2004, she moved into an apartment at St. James Manor in Perham. She was a member of St. John?s Lutheran Church, Dora Township.
Surviving Marian are three daughters, Barbara (Roger) Nelson, of Underwood, MN, Betty Obright, of Dent, MN, and Bonnie (Ronnie) Norgren, of Dalton, MN; two sons, Robert (Joyce) Collins, of Perham, MN, and Bruce (Bev) Collins, of Panama City Beach, FL; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Harriet (Arland) Backstrom and numerous nieces and nephews, friends and relatives.
Preceding Marian in death were her parents; her husband, Harold; infant granddaughter, Jodi Lynn Collins ;one infant brother and one infant sister; sister, Adella Harthun; brother, Arland Backstrom and son-in-law, Robert Obright.
