Lucille Frank

Lucille Constance Frank, age 91, of Dent, MN, died Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at The Thomas House II, Perham, MN.



Lucille was born November 15, 1914 in Hayfield, MN the daughter of Earnest M. and Christine (Gronseth) Jacobson. After graduating from high school in Pelican Rapids, MN, she went on to obtain a teaching certificate from Moorhead Teachers' College. Her first teaching jobs were at rural schools in the Rothsay, MN area. She also taught at Districts 244 and 144 in Star Lake Township and Vergas, MN. In 1969 she earned a B.A. from Moorhead State University; she and her family were very proud of this achievement. She last taught elementary students in Frazee, MN. After retirement, she especially enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with her husband and socializing with her ADK sorority sisters (National Sorority of Women Educators).



Lucille married John S. "Buck" Frank on November 6, 1939 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dent. The couple became the proprietors of the resort known as Frank's Lodge in 1940 and operated the resort through 2004. In appreciation of their thirty years of joint advocacy to have the culvert at the mouth of the west arm of Star Lake replaced with a bridge; upon completion in 1987 it was named the Frank Memorial Bridge, by Star Lake Township.



At age 70, Lucille published a book of short essays telling with wit and enthusiasm of her life as a wife, mother and career woman in rural Minnesota. The book, Seasons in the Sun, is an important part of the legacy she left her family and friends.



Lucille is survived by her children, Joycelyn (Howard) Weyker, Sebastopol, CA; John M. (Kathleen) Frank, Shasta Lake, CA; Mary (Pierre) duCharme, Dent, MN; Karen Gordon, Richville, MN; Elizabeth (William) Weil, Snellville, GA; Robert J. (Dona) Frank, Redding, CA; and Stephanie Jane Frank, Perham, MN; son-in-law, Gery Knuttila, Fargo, ND; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; a brother, Dayton (Della) Jacobson, Perham, MN; a sister, Lavaine (Palmer) Peterson, Cloquet, MN; and many other relatives and friends.



Lucille is preceded in death by her husband, Buck, 2004; a son, Richard A. Frank, 1965; a daughter, Kristine Knuttila, 2005; a brother, Carl Jacobson; a sister, Hazel Richardson; and two grandsons.



Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation, Sunday, February 19 at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, from 4 - 8:00 pm with a Rosary and Vigil at 7 pm and also one hour prior to the funeral service. A celebration of the funeral Mass will be held Monday, February 20 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dent, with Father Joe Herzing officiating and burial following in the church cemetery.



Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Lakeland Hospice.
