Lillian Victoria Halvorson was born May 1, 1924, in Pine Creek, MN, the daughter of Halvor and Molla (Haugen) Halvorson. She was the ninth of ten children. Lillian graduated from Badger High School in 1942 and finding no work in the area during the war, she traveled with relatives to the Naval depot in Hastings, NE, to find employment. There she met Walter Harrom. Lillian and Walt were married on June 9, 1945, in Hastings, and together had three children; Mark in 1946, Kenneth in 1950, and Carol in 1955. In 1958 they bought a farm on Star Lake just off Highway 41. There she led the very busy and hard working life of a farmer's wife. Lillian was an active member of the St. John's Ladies Aide and also belonged to Sunny Side Mission Aide which helped support Camp Joy.
Lillian fondly remembered the two greatest surprise gifts Walt gave her; a trip to Norway in 1974 with two of her sisters and the square dancing lessons they started about twenty years ago. In 1997 Lillian and Walt sold the farm and moved into Dent. Walt died in May 1999 following cancer surgery. A year after Walt's death, Lillian was able to go to Norway again, with her sister. On December 13, 2003, Lillian suffered a major heart attack and was admitted to Perham Memorial Home in June 2004 following surgery and she was also suffering from Alzheimer's. In 2006 her daughter and son-in-law were able to bring her to their home Dent to live out her life. Lillian loved her family and many friends.
Lillian is survived by her three children, Mark Harrom, Wheaton, MN; Kenneth Harrom, Dent, MN; and Carol (Mike) McIlvain, Dent, MN; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Vivian Beck, Portland, ND; and Phyllis (Kenneth) Lundby, Dickinson, ND; and many nieces and nephews.
