Leona Rothiger

Leona Agnes Sophie (Seedorf) Rothiger, age 97 passed away on Monday, October 5, 2020 at Perham Living in Perham, MN. Leona was born August 14, 1923 to William and Lena (Luebberman) Seedorf in Perham Township. She attended school at District 58, Perham High School and Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND.

Leona started her bookkeeping career by working at Knuttila Implement Company for ten years. She then transitioned to Minneapolis Moline and then on to Perham Jobbing Company. Leona then started at Perham State Bank in 1969 working there until her retirement. Leona also worked at Nadine’s Ladies Fashions for a number of years, as her encore career.

Leona married Leo Rothiger in May of 1946 at Zions Evangelical church and lived in the Perham area all their married life. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2006. Leo and Leona sold their property on Little Pine Lake in 2005 and moved to the Westwind addition with her beloved dog, Maggie. Leo passed away in November of 2006.

Leona was active in the Perham community. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and was part of the Calvary ladies circle and quilting groups. Leona was also a member of the Perham VFW and the Order of Eastern Star. In 2000, Leona was inducted in the Perham Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame for her community service. She dearly loved her garden and was famous for raising beautiful gladiolas which was her favorite flower. You could also find Leona enjoying many crafts including sewing. When not crafting or gardening you could find her golfing and camping at a polka fest.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Leo; sister Loretta; brothers Elmer and Carl; brother-in-law Ralph Richter; sister-in-law LaVonne; and nephew Russell.

Leona is survived by her sister Wilma Richter; sister-in-law Irene Seedorf; nieces and nephews and their children Ron and Tammy Richter (Cody and Jamie), Brenda and Steve Lehmkuhl (Carly and Randi), Lynn and Eric Johnson, Paul and Amanda Seedorf (Carter, Clayton and Caylee), Denise and Kirby Scheer (Kyla and Brynn), Scott Seedorf (Cody and Taylor), Sheila and Dan Keskitalo (Jon) and Cheryl Richter (Hayden); niece-in-law Rhonda and Jeff Fassett (Scott and Brent); and eight great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11 at Schoeneberger Funeral & Cremation Service in Perham. Visitation will resume from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 on Monday, October 12 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Perham. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
