Lena "Mary" Dybsand

Lena Marion “Mary” (Ashton) Dybsand, 88 of Ottertail, MN died Saturday, July 29, 2017 in the Broen Home of Fergus Falls, MN. Mary was born June 18, 1929, at Sacred Heart, MN. She worked her whole life, beginning at the local café in Sacred Heart at the age of 13 years old.

She married Romo Dybsand on March 19, 1949 at Sacred Heart where they made their home until 1954. Mary traveled with Romo building wood cribbed grain elevators throughout the Midwest for Hogenson Construction of West Fargo, ND. In 1968, they moved to Verona, ND where they lived until 1972. After forty years of moving for various elevator builds, Romo and Mary finally retired to the lake home they built together on Otter Tail Lake, MN.

Mary was an active member of her church, Zion Lutheran Church of Amor and her local chapter of The Red Hat Society. She had many hobbies, which included collecting pottery and antiques, reading, ceramics and cooking. Mary loved to travel, seeing many locations throughout the country with tour groups. Later in life she could be seen in her Chevy Impala traveling the roads of Minnesota attending the latest play or musical. Mary had a lively sense of humor and was always ready for a new adventure.

Mary is survived by her daughter-in-law Linda Dybsand of Horace, ND; her granddaughter Lauren Dybsand of Horace; a brother Donald (Josephine) Ashton of Minneapolis, MN; and a sister Ellen (Gene) Heit of Chisago City, MN.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Clara Ashton, her husband Romo, her son Lee, a brother Lester, and a sister Shirley.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 5 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 at Zion Lutheran Church of Amor, MN. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pastor James Gronbeck will officiate.
