LaVerne Moenkedick, age 70, of Perham, MN, died Friday, September 7, 2007, at MeritCare, Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 11, 2007, beginning at 11:00 am at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Perham, with Father Joe Herzing officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, September 10, at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm and one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.
LaVerne Marion Sazama was born June 9, 1937, in Perham, MN, the daughter of Joseph and Monica (Dombeck) Sazama. LaVerne grew up in rural Edna Township along with her two sisters and two brothers. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Perham. She attended country school at District #132 and graduated from Perham High School in 1955. On June 28, 1958, LaVerne was united in marriage to Ambrose Moenkedick and together they had four children; Sandy, Cheryl, David, and Tim. They made their homes in Minnesota, Iowa, and Las Vegas, Nevada. They moved back to Perham in 1975. LaVerne was the vice-president and secretary of Momar Enterprises, Inc., her family's corporation for many years, and was also involved with her husband and children in many business ventures during her lifetime. She enjoyed traveling, decorating, being involved in family business ventures, having friends from many states, and collecting "things". Her two family dachshund dogs were also a love of her life for 32 years. Family and family life was the most important aspect to LaVerne. She was truly a beautiful person, beloved and loved by all who knew her. Her last words to family and friends, "I love all of you". Blessed be the memory of LaVerne, she will be loved and missed.
LaVerne's life changed in 1997 when she was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. She continued to live life to the fullest. She endured the pain and ravages of this disease for ten years without complaint and continued her life's activities until the end.
LaVerne is survived by her husband, Ambrose, Perham, MN; four children, Sandy (Jeff) Burns; Cheryl (Darren) Wiskow; David (Cindy) Moenkedick; and Tim (Rhonda) Moenkedick; seven grandchildren; six step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; two sisters, Magdeline (Alfred) Silbernagel; and Rose (Ray) Guck; one brother, Joe (Jewel) Sazama; and one sister-in-law, Delores Sazama.
Preceding LaVerne in death are her parents; one brother, Bernard Sazama; and her mother and father-in-law, Mary and Herman J. Moenkedick.
