Kathryn was born in Perham on August 15, 1928, the daughter of August and Anna (Moenkedick) Martodam. Kathryn graduated from Perham High School in 1945 and on June 29, 1949 was united in marriage to Edwin Perszyk. Together, they raised four children. Kathryn met many people in the community while working 20+ years in Dr. Kupferschmid's Optometry office. She will be remembered for her strong commitment to the Perham Community and St Henry's Church. She loved music and was a long-time member of the church choir. Her beautiful soprano voice rang out most Sundays as well as at numerous weddings and funerals. Kathryn had a volunteer spirit and a wide circle of friends. These friendships were enriched through her many activities with Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters, Perham VFW Women's Auxiliary, the Perham Nursing Home and coordinating the Red Cross Blood mobile for almost 25 years. She also enjoyed playing bridge, taking bus tours, as well as being a part of an afternoon coffee group and the Red Hat Society. Her strong faith guided and sustained Kathryn through the untimely death of her beloved daughter, Mary Beth, as well as the death of Edwin.
Kathryn was extremely proud of her family and the accomplishments of her ten grandchildren. She loved to cook and entertain family and friends. Her entire family looked forward to her barbecued ribs, fish fries at Paul Lake, homemade bread, oatmeal cookies, cinnamon rolls and strawberry jam.
Surviving Kathryn are her three boys Duane (Cyd), David and John (Jennifer); her grandchildren Aleyna (Pontus), Daniel (Simone), Michael (Cara), Patrick, Andrew, Brian (Caitlin), Thomas (Faith), Benjamin, Lynn and Samuel; her five great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law Barbara Martodam.
Preceding Kathryn in death were her parents; her husband Edwin; her daughter Mary Beth Perszyk-Bissett; and her brother Robert Martodam.
