Kathryn Krekelberg

Funeral services for Kathryn Mary Krekelberg, age 95, of Perham, MN, will be held at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Perham, Saturday, January 22, 2005, beginning at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend James Bernauer and Reverend David Rieder officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery, Perham. Visitation at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, is from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 21, 2005, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Kathryn died at the Perham Memorial Nursing Home, Perham, Sunday, January 16, 2005.
Kathryn was born on October 5, 1909, in Perham Township, MN, to Frank and Mary (Fiedler) Menz. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church, rural Perham. Kathryn attended school through the eighth grade at St. Joseph School. At age 16, her mother passed away, and she assumed the role of surrogate mother for her younger siblings. Kathryn later worked in Perham at various housekeeping positions. On September 7, 1931, she was united in marriage to Charles Henry Krekelberg at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They made their home in Edna Township, and later, purchased the Menz family farm where they farmed until the mid-1970s. To this union, nine children were born. Kathryn was a gifted mother, seamstress, cook and gardener. A great joy to her were her children and their families, and, to all who would listen, she would tell how proud she was of them. Kathryn took equal pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Her faith in God guided her through her life.
Surviving Kathryn are eight children, Richard (Bonita) Krekelberg, of St. Joseph, MN, Eugene (Marlene) Krekelberg, of Eveleth, MN, Henry (Ann) Krekelberg, of St. Louis Park, MN, Donald (Bonnie) Krekelberg, of Plymouth, MN, Mary (James) Klein, of Clinton, MN, Charles, Jr. (Pat) Krekelberg, of Pelican Rapids, MN, Patricia (Wayne) Greenwood, of Brooklyn Park, MN, Kenneth (Lynne) Krekelberg, of Maplewood, MN, and one daughter-in-law, Sandy Mueller, of Spring, Texas; twenty-seven grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Susan Heitjan and Marie Heitjan, of Pontiac, MI; two special sisters-in-law, Pauline Krekelberg and Violet Menz, both of Perham, MN and a great many nieces, nephews and friends.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; son, Gerald and fourteen brothers and sisters.
