Jule E. Benke, age 75, of Perham, MN, died on December 1, 2003, at the Perham Memorial Hospital, his battle with cancer was over.
Jule, the son of Julius Benke and Martha Pietsch Benke, was born on February 26, 1928, in Stockton, MN. As a young child he was received into God?s Kingdom of grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. Some years later he publicly professed his faith in his Savior Jesus Christ. Jule graduated from Fairfax High School, Los Angeles, CA and then attended college in Los Angeles for 2 years before he was called to serve in the Korean Conflict. After he was discharged he earned his BS degree in Winona, MN and taught in the Rochester Public School District until his retirement in 1986. On December 19, 1953, he married Catherine Haack, the daughter of Hugo and Anna Haack of Stewartville, MN. Their marriage was blessed with four children. Jule is remembered for his love of many things including, his family, his grandchildren, fishing, hunting, gardening as well as his sense of humor. Jule was always active in the Lutheran Church and was a member at St. John?s Lutheran Church since 1986. Jule is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Walter and Arthur; and one sister, Dorothy Haase.
Surviving Jule is his wife, Catherine of Perham; 4 sons: Steven (Tammy), Inver Grove Heights, MN; Mark (Mary) Loveland, CO; David (Johnna) Woodbury, MN; and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Chanhassen, MN; 8 grandchildren: Elaine and Amanda; Lauren and Tyler; Bennett and Westin; and Anna and Sarah; 2 sisters: Cleo Lampland, and Betty Gulbransen, both of Kasson, MN; as well as a wider circle of relatives and friends who mourn his death.
