Joyce Ann was born in Dora Township on a farm near Vergas, MN on September 2, 1920 to William and Daisy (Jackson) Peach. She attended country school in District 151 and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1939. After graduation, she worked at the Dent Coop Creamery as a bookkeeper. On October 8, 1945 Joyce Ann was united in marriage to Erbin Koelln. Together they farmed in the Dent area for 22 years and raised one son, Dale Koelln. In 1967 Joyce Ann and Erbin moved into Perham. Joyce Ann went to work at Perham Memorial Hospital and Home as a dietary aide. She held this position for 28 years.
After her retirement, she began volunteering doing Meals on Wheels for many years. She loved helping others. Joyce Ann would also help serve dinners at Briarwood one day a week. She was a member of the Dent United Methodist Church, the only church she ever went. At church, Joyce Ann loved to help as well. She would wait tables for church suppers, serve coffee on Sunday mornings, usher and put dialogues together once a month.
The six years that Erbin was a resident at Perham Living, Joyce Ann spent every afternoon with him. She would take him on walks in the courtyard and bring him to whatever activities were going on. Joyce and Erbin were married 62 years. Together they loved to dance and that is where they met, at a dance. Joyce and Erbin loved traveling and in their later years, enjoyed bus tours. Joyce Ann loved to cook, bake and embroider. She embroidered many sets of towels.
In 2012, Joyce was honored for her volunteer work. She was awarded the District C Volunteer of the Year Award from The Aging Service of Minnesota. Joyce did not attend the ceremony in the Twin Cities because it was during the same time that her son, Dale died. In 2015 Joyce was recognized at an awards banquet by the Perham Chamber of Commerce.
