Joyce Brasel

Joyce A. Brasel (Bunkowske), age 80 of Perham, MN, died Friday, January 17, 2025 at home with family by her side.

Joyce Ann was born November 6, 1944 to Albert and Alvina (Buehler) Bunkowske in Detroit Lakes, MN She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Vergas, MN. She attended country school in District 116 for seven years, graduating from Perham High School and Minneapolis Business School.

On May 21, 1966, she was united in marriage to Melvin Brasel in Vergas. They made their home in Perham and were blessed with two sons, Dan and Joel. Joyce worked in Minneapolis, Fargo, and in Perham at Perham Hospital and Perham Egg. She retired in December 2006 and together with Melvin, they spent their winters in Texas. Joyce enjoyed camping, gardening, quilting, and Swedish weaving.

Surviving Joyce is her husband of 58 years, Melvin Brasel; sons, Dan Brasel of Perham and Joel (Mariela) Brasel of Elk City, OK; four granddaughters, Crystal, Ximena, Gina, and Alexa; brother, Jerry (Jolene) Bunkowske of Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law, Keith Ramberg of Mentor, MN; special friend, Cody Sazama; many other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death are her parents; and sister, Donna Ramberg.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Roger Maris Cancer Center.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Corliss Township. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Saint John's Lutheran Church South Cemetery (Bethlehem Cemetery).
