Joseph McAllister

Joseph Claude McAllister, 86, of Richville, MN, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 8, 2024 surrounded by family. Joe was born at home on January 17, 1938, the son of George and Florence (Neubauer) McAllister. He attended District 267 Country School before graduating from Perham High School with the class of 1955. Upon graduation, Joe enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a helicopter mechanic until his honorable discharge in 1959.

Joe was united in marriage on August 5, 1961 to Donna (Ash) McAllister. They spent the next 60 years together and their marriage was blessed with two children, Jodi (Monte) Ohlrogge and Jeff (Shawn) McAllister. Joe worked in construction until he and Donna started a small dairy farm where they worked side by side for the next 23 years. Upon selling the cows, Joe began working for the United States Postal Service where he retired as a rural mail carrier.

Joe had a strong faith and believed in the importance of family. He enjoyed the simple things in life whether he was sitting on a tractor plowing the ground, losing a game of cards to a grandchild, picking up a guitar and strumming a few chords with his brothers, or delivering everyone's mail on time.

Preceding Joe in death were his parents; parents-in-law Joe and Eunice; wife Donna; siblings Helen, George, Norma Jean, James, and Lorraine; brothers-in-law Leonard, Maynard, Larry, Tom, and Jack; and sisters-in-law Sharon and Lois. Surviving Joe are his children Jodi (Monte), Jeff (Shawn); grandchildren Amanda (Kevin), Eric (Ashley), Josie (Sagan), Madison, Jacob, and Avery; great-grandchildren Hunter and Riley; his brother Jerome (Pauline); brother-in-law Lawrence; and sister-in-law Jacki.

Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 on Friday, September 20 at Schoeneberger Funeral & Cremation Service in Perham. Visitation will resume from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 on Saturday, September 21 at St. James Catholic Church of Maine, rural Underwood.
