Joseph Belka, Jr., age 78, of Pelican Rapids, MN, died Tuesday, January 1, 2008, at the Crystal Lake Inn, Adult Foster Care Facility, Pelican Rapids, MN. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 4, 2008, beginning at 1:00 pm at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, with Father Joe Herzing officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm prior to the service.
Joseph was born on April 19, 1929, in Perham, MN. He was the youngest child of Joe and Hattie (Palubicki) Belka of Perham, MN. The Belka family lived on a farm about eight miles north of Perham and Joseph attended Perham Pubic School. He was a quiet and gentle man with a great love for music. He played the piano with expertise although he had never had a piano lesson. Over the years he found much enjoyment in playing the piano for the residents of various nursing homes in the Fergus Falls and Pelican Rapids areas. He enjoyed playing piano in church also. Since 1991, Joe has lived at the Joy and Norman Westby Group Home on Lake Crystal near Pelican Rapids, MN.
Joseph is survived by a sister, Susan Ruether, Perham, MN; and eighteen nieces and nephews.
Preceding Joseph in death are his parents; a brother, Edward Belka; and three sisters, Florence Zeller, Irene Boedigheimer, and Magdaline Wasescha.
