John Ogroske

December 27, 1951 — July 29, 2021

Perham, MN

John Edward Ogroske, age 69, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 29th, 2021. John suffered an almost 2-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

John was born on December 27, 1951, in Perham MN, to Emil and Dorothy (Tobkin) Ogroske. He was a lifetime resident of Perham, MN, raised on the Ogroske family farm, and was a member of the graduating class of 1969. After high school, he attended Moorhead State University, where he completed his bachelor's degree in Mass Communications. On August 10th, 1974 he united in marriage with Susan Grismer. Together they built a home north of Perham. There they raised three children, TJ, David, and Kristi. John lived in the home for 47 years.

Throughout his life, John built a variety of businesses. He, and his brother, Leon, owned and operated Ogroske Brothers, Inc. Together, they owned a turkey insemination business and turkey farm in Wadena, MN, and published Writer's Journal magazine. Later, John was a paint specialist, creating Fix-A-Chip, a car detailing and painting business. He ran the business, for 16 years, until he was diagnosed with cancer.

John enjoyed playing cribbage and games with friends and family. He spent hours gardening, planting flowers, and working to make the family property beautiful. He spent time laughing with his children, grandchildren, and spent endless hours woodworking and enjoying time with his best friend, Ron. He was always prepared to engage in conversation about the weather and politics. John also loved to camp, and canoe down Ottertail River. Perhaps one of his greatest loves was his church, St. Henry's Catholic Church.

John Ogroske is survived by his three children, TJ (Kendra) of McKinney, TX, David (Sarah) of Perham, MN, and Kristi Gusso (Bud), of Rapid City, SD, Susan (mother of the children); four grandchildren, Jacoby, Crista, Arya, and Jack. He is also survived by his siblings, Jim (Linda), Leon (Carol), Audrey Tovson (Tom), as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Dorothy.

A Visitation will be held from 5pm-7pm on Monday, August 2, 2021 at Schoeneberger Funeral Home in Perham with a Prayer Service at 6:30pm.
