Joan Thalmann

Joan Alice (George) Thalmann, age 91 of Ottertail, MN passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025.

Joan was born March 14, 1933 in Clearwater County, MN, Holst Township; the daughter of Clarence and Mable George.

Joan was united in marriage to Russel Thalmann on December 30, 1955. They moved to Ottertail to the family farm, where they raised their children, and they lived a full and wonderful life.

Joan enjoyed gardening, canning vegetables, jellies/jams, traveling, playing rummy, painting, wood working, bird watching and spending time with family.

 Joan is survived by three daughters and two sons, Donna (Mark) Papenfuss, Darwin Thalmann, Debby (Jerry) Elder, Duane (Lisa) Thalmann, and Dianne (David) Blanchard; 16 grandchildren, Jonathan, James, Justin, Jake, Jack, Jessie, Becky, Toby, Angie, Jenny, Max, Cory, Wayne, Ryan, Tyler, and Brandy; 26 great grandchildren, Aris Sirena, Anakin, Takaira, Keanah, Quinn, Emeryk, Olivia, Nora, Levi, Isaac, Hannah, Dalton, Hunter, Joey, Julia, Tea, Norman, Alice, Reed, TJ, Tyson, Mathias, Mariah, Madelyn, Taylor, Khiera; one great-great grandchild, Lochlan; and her sisters, Beverly Lundmark, Marylin Emery, and Donna Lou Wendlandt.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Russel Thalmann; parents, Clarence and Mable George; several siblings, Georgie, James, Helen, Irene, Jean, Robert, Merle, Betty, Caroline, Adeline, Tony, Jr, and Milton.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on April 4, 2025 at St John’s Lutheran Church in Ottertail. Visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will be after the service at the church cemetery, with lunch to follow.
