Janet Harned, 74, of Perham, MN, was called home by the Lord on January 21, 2017, due to complications from a heart attack, Renal failure, and a general lack of breathing. She was a resident of Lakeland Apartments and Perham Living's Transitions in Perham, MN, when heaven welcomed our precious mom home.
A celebration of life will be held at Northwoods Assembly of God, 945 W Main in Perham, MN 56573 on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Dirk Currier to officiate. Visitation to follow the service.
Janet was born to Percy and Helen (Swenson) Winterfield on April 17, 1942, on their family farm in Elk River, MN. She was a member of the class of 1960 at Elk River High School. Janet J. Winterfield married Joseph A.Taylor in 1963 and they had two sons, David Raymond and Gregory Joe.
After being a homemaker for several years, Janet became the "Head Twinkie" at Hostess Bakery in Minneapolis, MN where she met Elmer Lawrence Harned. Janet and Elmer were united in marriage on February 14th, 1983 and made their home in the NE Minneapolis and Robbinsdale. They each accepted Christ as their personal Lord and Savior at the Assembly of God church in Fridley where she was active in the food ministry and in several missions opportunities. Janet and Elmer offered adult foster care in the home for 20 years and touched many lives before their retirement in 2000.
Janet and Elmer then relocated to Perham, MN where they could often be found driving around town on their "power chairs." They were also well known in the community by many as Grandpa and Grandpa and spent several years playing in Texas Hold 'em tournaments in and around Perham and the surrounding communities.
At Lakeland apartments where they lived, Janet served on many social activities including their daily coffee hour. Soon the snacks that had been typical at coffee were replaced by full meals featuring things like her famous hot dish and her home-baked items. She didn't want to miss anything and loved to entertain! She lived her life to the fullest! Everyone LOVED her and she loved everyone she met unconditionally. She was a Godly woman full of love, joy, and happiness and was always the life of the party. She had an infectious unforgettable laugh, and she always gave more than she had. Some say she got that laugh from her mom Helen – and passed it on to Dave.
Janet loved to make a deal, and was often found garage saling or shopping at the local thrift store in Perham. She loved planning and working the annual garage sale at Lakeland apartments, and many bake sales at the local churches. She loved to garden and volunteered her time at the Perham Community Garden, and had her own garden plot at her apartment. She enjoyed canning foods, and enjoyed many crafts including sewing, quilting, and crocheting. She cherished being a grandma to everyone and many families vistied her with their children. She touched so many lives and we are so grateful to everyone that loved, appreciated and adopted Jan and Elmer into their lives and families.
We want to extend a special thank you to entire staff at Perham Living Transitions and Hospice of the Red River Valley for the loving care they provided Janet as she prepared for her journey home. Our words could never express our gratitude for your loving care.
