The funeral service for Janet Allene Christen, 91, Frazee, MN, will be held on Monday, January 2, 2006 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Evergreen, MN, with Reverend Anthony Cloose officiating and burial to follow at Union Cemetery, Spruce Grove Township, Becker County, MN. Visitation will be Sunday, January 1, from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. at the Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Janet died on Thursday, December 29, 2005 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, MN.
Janet was born September 16, 1914 in Lyle, MN, the daughter of Walter J and Bessie (Paulson) Roberts. She moved with her family to a farm in Spruce Grove Township, Becker County, MN, and there she attended the Spruce Grove country school. On October 2, 1935, Janet was married to Edmund R. Christen at Menahga, MN. Together they moved to Evergreen, MN in 1942. They were blessed with two sons. Edmund died April 28, 1983. This was Janet's home until she moved to Perham in 1996. She later lived at the Vergas Assisted Living Home, Frazee Care Center and the last two years at Emmanuel Nursing Home. Janet was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid, LWML and the organist for many years. She enjoyed cake baking/decorating, was a seamstress and an avid bowler. Her hobbies also included gardening, painting pictures, reading and crossword puzzles. She loved to be with family.
Janet is survived by two sons, Jarrod (Darlene) Christen, Detroit Lakes, MN; and Gary (Nancy) Christen, Bloomington, MN; five grandchildren, Michael (special friend Marlene) Christen, Detroit Lakes, MN; Mark (Janel) Christen, Frazee, MN; Terry (Kelly) Christen, Warrens, WI; Douglas (Celina) Christen, St. Joseph, MN; and Coni (Kevin) Murphy, Delavan, WI; eleven great grandchildren; a sister, Wilma (Kenneth) Bunkowski, Perham, MN; two sister-in-laws, Cora Roberts, Detroit Lakes, MN; and Eunice Christen, Barnesville, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
Janet is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a brother, Allen Roberts.
