James Limmer

June 25, 1940 — January 29, 2025

James Martin Limmer of Perham, MN passed into eternal peace on Wednesday January 29, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. Jim was born June 25, 1940 to Herb and Alice (Guck) Limmer. He was the oldest of five children and enjoyed life on the family resort on Rush Lake, where he started his love for fishing when taking the guests out on the lake showing them the hotspots. He attended St. Henry's grade school, then attended Perham High School. After graduation he joined the National Guard and served as an aircraft electrician for eight years.

On December 28, 1963, he married Rose Hammers, and they moved to Wahpeton, ND where Jim was enrolled in the Electrical Construction program. He graduated in 1965 and began employment with Northwestern Bell at Bemidji, MN.

In 1973 he was employed as an instructor in the Electrical Construction program at the North Dakota State School of Science. In 1978 Jim and Rose moved to Ottertail, MN where Jim began Limmer Electric Company. In 1985 he accepted a position as Plant Operations Director at St. Joseph's Hospital in Park Rapids, MN. Following an early retirement from there, he became an insurance broker, and in 2005 he established Limmer Insurance Company.

Jim enjoyed flying airplanes and pheasant/duck hunting with his black lab, Coke. He also enjoyed local fishing as well as Canadian fishing. He began a men's fishing retreat at Lake of the Woods in Canada in 1987. It was a time of sharing God's Word and Christian fellowship as well as fishing. This was a yearly event to present. He began a men’s prayer group in 1990 which met in his fish house behind his home and later moved into his home. It still continues today.

His pride and joy were his grandkids Marcus and Brooke and great-grandchild, Bryelle Rose. They enjoyed many things together, fishing any chance he could. The grandkids were always a great excuse to cast a line, play table games, go camping, take short trips to Itasca, and far away trips to Sarasota, FL, where in 2018 they enjoyed a day on the boat on the ocean with Jim and Karen Hammers. They spent a lot of time on Otter Tail Lake, pontooning, fishing, and playing in the water until they were wrinkled. They always ended the day with a bonfire, giggling about the events of the day and making that perfect s(h)more.

Those who knew Jim will remember him for his infectious smile and belly roll laugh, his deep-rooted faith in Jesus, and his unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness to everyone he encountered. He had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.

Although Jim's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May his memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth his legacy of love and compassion in all that we do, (especially fishing).

Jim is survived by his daughter Julene (Greg) Boedigheimer of Perham; two grandchildren Marcus (Britt) Boedigheimer of Perham and Brooke (Derek) Stommes of Ottertail, MN; one great-grandchild Bryelle Rose Boedigheimer of Perham; two brothers Jerry Limmer of Ottertail and Mike (Jeanie) Limmer of Ottertail; two sisters Ginger Usselman of Arizona and Laurie (Randy) Torgerson of Henning, MN; friend Donna Sapa of Deerwood, MN; along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Jim in death were his parents; his wife Rose; and his son Christopher.
