Irene Lehman, age 89, of Perham, MN, died Sunday, April 24, 2005, in her home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2005, 11:00 am, at St. Henry?s Catholic Church, Perham, MN. Interment to be at St. Henry?s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2005 from 4-8:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, MN.
Irene was born April 17, 1916 in New Effington, SD, the daughter of Nels and Petra Fonnest. On February 8, 1935 she was married to Eugene H. Lehman at the Parrish House in Tintah, MN. They made their home and farmed in Tintah until 1946 when they moved to a farm near Perham. During her life she worked at Perham Memorial Hospital. She was a devoted wife and mother, dedicating her life to her 10 children and many grandkids. She was a member of the VFW Auxilary and St. Henry?s Christian Mothers. She enjoyed making many quilts, clothes and sewing. She was constantly busy with different hobbies. She enjoyed cooking and baking, with doughnuts, fried chicken and apple pie being her specialties for large family get-togethers. She attended and graduated between Wheaton and Tintah High Schools. She played the piano, organ and accordion throughout her life. Five older children were born in Breckenridge, the five younger ones were born in Perham.
Irene is survived by three daughters, Gloria Wokasch, Perham, MN; Mary (DuWayne) Brincks and Lyn Lehman, both of Lawler, IA. Six sons, Wayne (Joyce) Lehman, Perham, MN; Floyd (Donna) Lehman, Morris, MN; Mark (DeAnna) Lehman, Perham, MN; Greg Lehman, Elk River, MN; Pat Lehman, Perham, MN; and Terry (Lynn) Lehman, Perham, MN; Daughter-in-law, Georgiann Lehman (wife of deceased son Jack). She is also survived by thirtysix grandchildren, fortyfour great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Henry Lehman; her parents, Nels and Petra (Stageberg) Fonnest, Tintah, MN; her in-laws, Paul and Mary (Ebert) Lehman, Tintah, MN; son, John (Jack) Lehman; three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, four sisters, Amy Fonnest, Othelia (Tillie) Barry, Gladys Lehman, Ethel (Richard) (Hunnah) Forseberg; and two brothers, Henry and Norris Fonnest.
