Irene Ann Buechler, age 96, of Perham, MN, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at the Perham Memorial Nursing Home, Perham. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 8, 2006, beginning at 11:00 am at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Perham, with Father Joe Herzing officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Perham. Visitation will be held Friday, April 7, at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm and also one hour prior to funeral services at the funeral home.
Irene was born March 20, 1910, in Belfield, ND, the third of seventeen children to Mathias and Seraphine (Silbernagel) Winkels. At the age of six she moved with her family to Dent, MN. She married Godfrey "Fritz" Buechler on April 13, 1937, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dent. Fritz and Irene farmed and raised their four children in the St. Joe area. Fritz died February 26, 1993. Irene loved crocheting, flowers, and being with her family. She was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Irene was a member of the Catholic Daughters, Christian Mothers, and Catholic Aid. She really believed in the power of prayer. In 1997, Irene moved into St. James Manor in Perham, MN, and in 2003 she moved into the Perham Memorial Nursing Home.
Irene is survived by her four children, Jim (Janice), Champlin, MN; Janice (Paul) Ventling, Warren, OH; Carol (Eugene) Doll, Perham, MN; and John, Elk River, MN; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; three brothers, Tom (Joan) Winkels, Minneapolis, MN; Alois (Rose) Winkels, Ottertail, MN; and Matt (Margaret) Winkels, Perham, MN; a sister, Margaret Ungari, San Jose, CA; and a sister in law, Minnie (Leonard) Winkels, Alexandria, MN.
Irene is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Godfrey; five sisters, Frances Ledermann, Pauline Riepe, Agatha Kern, Loretta Winkels and infant sister, Theresa Winkels; seven brothers, Adam, Sylvester, Lawrence, George, Leonard, Leo, and Joseph.
