Herman John Enslin, age 90, of Perham, MN, died at the Perham Memorial Nursing Home, Thursday, March 24, 2005. Funeral services will be at the United Methodist Church in Perham, Tuesday March 29, 2005, beginning at 2:30 p.m., with Reverend Rod Tornquist officiating. Burial will follow in the Perham Village Cemetery. Visitation at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, is from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 28, 2005, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., as well as one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
Herman was born January 17, 1915, the son of Henry and Sophie () Enslin , on a farm near Ackley, Iowa. At the age of 2, he moved to a farm near Luce, MN, with his family. Herman and his brothers attended country school west of Luce. He was united in marriage to Hazel Marchant Wilbur on February 22, 1952. Their home was in rural Perham, in Gorman Township, where they farmed until retiring in 1993. The couple traveled over the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, during their early retirement years. After continuing to live on the farmstead until January 2004, Herman and Hazel made their home at the Frazee Care Center, Frazee, MN. Shortly before his death, Herman moved to the Perham Memorial Hospital and Home until his death. His positive outlook on life and strength of character will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving Herman is one son, Robert (Renee) Wilbur, of Coon Rapids, MN; one daughter, Marie (Vince) Brekken, of Crookston, MN; four grandchildren, Shawn (Stacy) Wilbur and Chad Wilbur, both of Ramsey, MN; Travis Brekken, of Crookston, MN and Jocelyn Brekken, of St. Paul, MN; four great-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Allissa (Chad) and Laeia and Kyle (Shawn and Stacy), all of Ramsey, MN; one sister, Lydia Stebbins, of Vergas, MN, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Herman in death was his loving wife, Hazel; his parents and brothers, Paul and Albert.
