Helen Esther Anhorn was born on December 18, 1920, in Perham, MN, to Albert and Emma (Janke) Huwe. She grew up in Perham and moved to Owatonna, MN, in 1940. There she met the love of her life, Marvin Anhorn. They were united in marriage on April 28, 1943, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Corliss Township. After Marvin returned from the war, they started their married life together on a farm in Owatonna, MN. In 1950 they moved to a farm in the Rush Lake area south of Perham. Helen started working outside of the home in 1960 at the St. James Nursing Home in Perham as a nursing assistant. After selling the farm in 1967, they moved to Fergus Falls, MN, where she became employed as a psychiatric technician at the Fergus Falls State Hospital. In 1983 she retired after 19 years of dedicated service. In their retirement they settled on the north shore of Little Pine Lake. Many good memories were made there as they enjoyed sharing their home with family and friends. In 1996, just months before Marvin's death, they sold the lake home and moved to Perham. In 2001 Helen moved to Briarwood Senior Living Center in Perham where she made many good friends. Even after losing her eyesight she continued to live independently and required very little assistance and managed to remain upbeat and positive about life. She was an inspiration to all with whom she had contact. She entered the Perham Nursing Home in 2006 and lived there until her death. Helen enjoyed reading, walking, doing crossword puzzles, traveling, helping others, and most of all spending time with her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were precious to her and she cherished every hug, kiss, and visit she received from them.
Helen was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed, and married. She was also an active volunteer in the Perham community after her retirement. She participated in many capacities at the VFW Auxiliary, the East Otter Tail Historical Society, the Senior Citizen Center, and the Perham Memorial Hospital and Home.
Helen is survived by four children, Eldon (Brigetta) Anhorn, Weisbaden, Germany; Shirley (Jerry) Pribbernow, Fergus Falls, MN; Dale (Peggy) Anhorn, Ogden, UT; and Roger (Linda) Anhorn, Clitherall, MN; one sister, Leona Matz, Perham, MN; four brothers, Arnold (Eleanor) Huwe, Menahga, MN; Eldor (Margaret) Huwe, Menahga, MN; Norman (Jeanette) Huwe, Perham, MN; and Albert (Violet) Huwe, New York Mills, MN; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends who mourn her passing.
