Gloria Gertrude Basile, 79, of Bloomington, MN, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 9, 2012, surrounded by the love and comfort of her three sons.
Gloria was born August 30, 1932, in Dent, MN, to Ed and Anne Stoll, one of five children. After graduating from Perham High School, Perham, MN, she attended the College of St. Benedict, St. Joseph, MN. She graduated with a BA degree in elementary education. She taught in Wadena, MN; Santa Maria, CA; and Ely, MN. After college, Gloria traveled the world with her best friends Claire and Sue. She traveled to every continent except Antarctica. In 1960, she headed to Alaska, where she enjoyed teaching and the beautiful outdoors. On September 3, 1966, Gloria married Joseph "Joe" Samuel Basile and raised three sons: Joseph "JB" (born 1967), an orthodontist; Lance (born 1969), an electrical engineer; and Rocco (born 1972), a graphic artist. She retired from teaching in 1990 and moved to Dent with Joe.
In her retirement, Gloria was a substitute teacher at St. Henry's Area Catholic School, church secretary at Sacred Heart and served on the parish council. In her free time, she enjoyed oil painting, belly dancing and creating cakes for special occasions.
Surviving Gloria are her three children: Joseph (Sarah and grandchildren Sophia and Joseph) Basile, Lance (Sara and grandson Noah) Basile and Rocco Basile; brothers: Gene (Marion) Stoll, Louis (Mary) Stoll; sisters: Pat (Duane) Augdahl and Janet Rayl; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Gloria in her death are her beloved husband Joe; her parents: Ed and Anne Stoll; and brother-in-law: Duane Rayl.
