The funeral service for George W. Morgan, age 68, of Ottertail, MN, will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., at Calvary Lutheran Church in Perham, MN. Burial will be at South Trinity Cemetery, Forman, ND. Visitation is from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, as well as one hour prior to the funeral at the church. George died on Sunday, May 30, 2004, in the Palliative Care Center of MeritCare South University, Fargo, ND. He was surrounded by family and friends.
George was born on July 31, 1935, in Englevale, ND, to John Morgan and Anna Schiffner Morgan. He attended schools in the Engelvale area, graduating from high school in 1953 from Lisbon High School. George received degrees from North Dakota School of Science in Wahpeton, ND, Valley City State College and the University of South Dakota-Vermillion. In 1960, he married Mavis Nelson, of Forman, ND and they had three children. George taught Physics and Math in LaMoure, ND, Minot State College, and for twenty-four years, at Fairmont (Minnesota) High School. In 1991, he retired to Ottertail, MN, where he built a home for his family on Buchanan Lake. During the next thirteen years, he continued building houses in the area, traveling and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.
George is survived by his wife, Mavis, of Ottertail, MN; a daughter, Susan, of Louisville, KY; a son, Robert, of Eagan, MN; sisters, Eva Buckmiller, of Bothell, WA, and Mary Jane Gullingsrud, of Minot, ND; a brother, Dan Morgan, of Wishek, ND; godchildren Brenda Welsch, of Stillwater, MN, Wyatt Nelson, of Forman, ND, and Tammy Barrett, of Oak Grove, MN, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceding George in death is an infant son, David; his parents; step-father, Herman Jensen and godson, Richard Morgan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, the Palliative Care Unit of MeritCare South University, Fargo, ND or the Dollars for Scholars fund of your choice.
