Gary Ebeling

January 31, 1946 — August 19, 2019

Perham, MN

Gerald “Gary” Ebeling was born January 31, 1946 in Perham, MN to Edward and Emelia (Guck) Ebeling.  He entered heaven August 19, 2019, while being cared for at home by his family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Gary was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was a lifetime member there. He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School and Perham High School graduating in 1964. Gary had a strong faith and was active at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church & School where he served on many boards and committees. (Elders, Bd of Education, Bd of Finance and Building Committees).

On August 27, 1966 he married his high school sweetheart, Donna Wischnak. They were blessed with three children; Mark, Jon and Lisa.

Gary loved spending time with family and looked forward to the holiday gatherings, special times at the lake cabin and the hunting shack. He always enjoyed getting ready for deer hunting, the annual Canadian fishing trip, and the preparations that went into them. Just a Fall walk in the woods with Donna was also high on his list of things he loved to do. He especially enjoyed following his children’s school activities and continued with the grandchildren. Gary was a humble man with a big heart.

Gary served the community by volunteering on the Perham Fire and Rescue for 42 years. He was very proud to serve the PFD with his two sons and grandson. Gary started his working career at Tuffy’s in 1964 and continued until his health prevented it. He led the business through many exciting and challenging times, under various owners, and was so happy when the Nelson family bought it back in 2001.

Gary will be missed by his wife, Donna, of nearly 53 years; sons Mark Ebeling and Jon (Jodee) Ebeling of Perham; daughter Lisa (Ben) Evenson of Frazee; grandchildren Tyler, Madison, Zachary, Bailey and Brodey; siblings Sgt. Maj. E.R. (Jan) Ebeling of Arlington, VA, Doris (Keith) Boehlke, Randy (Carol) Ebeling and Bob Ebeling all of Perham; along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Daniel Ebeling.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 22 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Schoeneberger Funeral & Cremation Service in Perham. Visitation will continue from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by the Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 on Friday, August 23 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Perham. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.
