Florence Seifert

August 2, 1923 — October 29, 2017

God called His daughter Florence Marie (Doll) Seifert, age 94 of Perham, MN back home on Sunday, October 29, 2017.

Florence was born to Isidore and Elizabeth (Heembrock) Doll in Hodgeville, Saskatchewan, Canada on August 2, 1923. She was the oldest of eight children.

Florence met and fell in love with Walter Adam Seifert in Perham, MN. They were married in Hodgeville at St. Joseph Catholic Church on May 17, 1948. They moved to Bloomington, MN, where they happily raised their three children. Walt and Florence moved to Perham in 1974.

Over the years, Florence worked in many capacities. Before she was married, Florence worked at a munitions war plant in Regina, SK and as a hired girl doing housework and childcare. After she was married, she did office work in Minneapolis in the evening and worked as a waitress in the Dayton’s cafeteria. She did housekeeping for many families and volunteered in the kitchen at an elementary school in Bloomington, MN. She did housecleaning at the parish house at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Bloomington.

Florence was a wonderful wife and mother. She was a friend, caretaker, and advisor to everyone. If you needed help, all you needed to do was ask. Florence enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Senior Center in Perham, sharing dinners, playing bingo, cards, socializing and participating in other activities. She worked as an assistant manager at the Senior Center for several years. She also volunteered many hours at the Perham Nursing Home, with the Shopping Cart, setting hair, helping seniors participate in activities and helping with Masses. She also delivered Meals on Wheels in the community. She did housekeeping and cooking for the priests at St. Henry’s Catholic Church for 3 years.

Florence is survived by her daughters Elizabeth (James) Mott, Sylvia (Joel) Diers, and her son Walter (Donna) Seifert; her grandchildren Sarah (Kory) Groskreutz, Alexander (Megan) Mott, Jeremy (Jenny Mesker) Seifert, Molly Diers, Kristen (Timothy McShane) Diers Salmela, Curtis (Nicole) Seifert, Angelina (Gregory) Gerardo, and Tracy (Evan Cramer) Gustafson; and her great-grandchildren Lillian Salmela, Natalie, Lydia, and Simon Seifert, Owen and Lorna Groskreutz, Myla Gustafson, and Brody and Kylee Mesker; and her siblings Berniece Christenson, Betty Ann (Tony) Rollheiser, Gary (Carole) Doll; and sisters-in-law Shirley Doll and Bertha Doll.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter, her sister Margaret, and her brothers Lawrence, Jerome, and Norbert Doll.

Florence was always family-oriented. She was an avid reader and some of her special gifts were cooking and baking, as well as a variety of needlecrafts, sewing and quilting. These gifts were very often shared with family members, friends, or anyone in need.

Florence loved her children with all her heart. Her grandchildren were always on her mind and were the light of her life. Her great-grandchildren brought a special joy and gladness into her life.

Florence was very strong in her faith and belief in God. We know that when he called her home, Florence was ready to be welcomed into his loving arms where she has been reunited with the love of her life, Walt and will wait by his side to greet the rest of their family one day.

Rest in Peace, Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Sister, Aunt, and Friend. You will always be in our hearts. We will miss you and your beautiful smile.

In lieu of flowers, Florence has asked that any donations be made to the St. Henry’s Catholic School.
