Florence J. McAllister died Saturday, August 18, 2007, at the Golden Living Center - Ottertail Lake, Battle Lake, MN, where she had been a resident for 8 years at the age of 92 and 26 days. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2007, beginning at 11:00 am in St. James Catholic Church, Maine, MN, with Father Arlie Sowada officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, August 20, at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, MN, from 5:00 - 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
Florence Josephine Neubauer was born July 23, 1915, to Henry and Lethe (Burgor) Neubauer in Fairmount, ND. She was the third of sixteen children. She attended grade school in Fairmount and helped on the family farm. Florence loved to dance and met her husband, George A. McAllister. They were married February 5, 1932, and farmed together. On May 10, 1937, they moved to Richville, MN, and bought a farm where she lived until 1999. Florence and George raised seven children. For a year during the war, Florence worked in St. Paul, MN, at the war plant. In the fall, she would go with friends and pick potatoes in ND. She cooked and cleaned cabins at the Red Lantern Resort in Rush Lake for 12 years. She also cooked at the District 267 School and for the Hackberry Inn. Florence also enjoyed cleaning homes along Ottertail Lake and caring for elderly ladies in the area. Her hobbies included gardening, flowers, hiking, dancing, music, sewing for her three girls, and playing the accordion. Florence was a very hard working and loving mother.
Florence is survived by five children, Helen (Lawrence) Weinrich, Ottertail, MN; Norma Jean Moe, Frazee, MN; Joe (Donna) McAllister, Richville, MN; James (Jackie) McAllister, Richville, MN; and Jerome (Pauline) McAllister, Minneapolis, MN; son-in-law, Larry Urvand; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry; six sisters, Katherine, Rosella, JoAnn, Henrietta, Elaine, and Eunice; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Florence in death are her parents; husband, George; a daughter, Lorraine; a son, George Jr.; two sisters, Helen and Marie; six brothers, John, Edward, Raymond, Howard, Leo, and Lawrence; two son-in-laws, Maynard Moe and Leonard Rastedt; three infant grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Moe.
