Fern was born March 5, 1930 in Frazee, MN to William and Lillian (McGowan) Mattfeld. She moved to Perham in fifth grade and graduated in 1948 from Perham High School. She was united in marriage to Jim G. Boedigheimer on August 23, 1952 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. She worked for Dr. Biegler's office for 25 years. She was a very busy lady as they farmed, raised their five children, and ran their liquor store in Ottertail for many years. In 1980, they built Blue Horizon Ballroom and loved all the dances, weddings, and friendships they gained. Fern volunteered for over 37 years at Perham Living, Perham High School, and was an active Christian Mothers member. She was the most loving, nurturing, best caregiver ever.
Surviving Fern are her five children: Terry (Pamela) Boedigheimer of Perham, Debra (Daniel) Zacharias of Richville, Diane Wanner of Perham, Brenda (DonDray) Baumgart of Perham, and Becky (John) Schornack of Dent; 16 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Fern was preceded in death by her husband Jim; daughter Mary; sons-in-law Gary Wanner and John Baumgart; four sisters; and one great-grandson John Bensen.
