Elmer Brodersen, age 84, of Perham, MN, died Thursday, June 7, 2007, at the Perham Memorial Home. Funeral services will be Monday, June 11, 2007, at 2:00 pm at the Basswood Baptist Church, Richville, MN, with Pastor Bert Holmquist officiating. Burial will take place Tuesday, June 12, at 2:00 pm in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Coon Rapids, MN. Visitation will be Monday one hour prior to services at the church.
Elmer Thomas Brodersen was born November 27, 1922, in Holstein, IA, the son of Fred and Helena (Haye) Brodersen. After graduating high school in Holstein, Elmer joined the US Army Air Corps, serving four years. On August 27, 1949, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Koivu in Carlton, MN. Together they had two sons. Dorothy died in 2002. Elmer took a job as a sterotyper for the Duluth Tribune and after a few months on the job, transferred to the Minneapolis Star Tribune where he was employed for over thirty years. During those years he was also a volunteer fireman in Coon Rapids, MN. Upon retirement, Elmer moved to Walker Lake in Richville, MN, where he enjoyed fishing and touring the back roads with Dorothy. He was an active member of the Basswood Baptist Church.
Elmer is survived by a son, Richard (Linda) Brodersen, Coon Rapids, MN; six grandchildren, Alison, Jennah, Landon, Rocky, Shannon, and Thomas; and three great grandchildren.
Preceding Elmer in death are his parents; wife, Dorothy; and son, Randy.
