Edward Steeke, age 94 of Perham, MN died Monday, April 10, 2017 in Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND. Visitation will be Friday, April 14 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. at Schoeneberger Funeral Home in Perham. Visitation will resume on Saturday, April 15 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church of Corliss, rural Perham. Pastor Jared Nies will officiate. Burial will be held in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery (St. John's Lutheran South) at a later date.
Edward was born in Perham on February 27, 1923 the son of Carl and Amalia (Foerstner) Steeke. He was baptized on March 18, 1923 and was confirmed on June 14, 1946 all at St. John's Lutheran Church in Corliss Township. On October 19, 1949, Edward married Bonnie Rader in the Spruce Grove Church in Evergreen Township. Together they had four children. Edward farmed his whole life in Corliss Twp. retiring in 2010.
Edward served on the creamery board, the Corliss Township board and was a fire warden. He was very active at St. John's Lutheran Church of Corliss serving as treasurer of Sunday school, being an elder and trustee, serving on the finance and cemetery board and member of the men's club. He also volunteered for meals on wheels and played baseball for Corliss and Wolf Lake. Edward had a wonderful voice and played harmonica. He loved to sing and participated in the church choir.
Surviving Edward is his wife of over 67 years, Bonnie; his children Sandra (Darrel) Carstens of Perham, Debra (Tague) Damberg of Delano, MN, Rhonda (Loren) Koehler of New York Mills, MN and Kim (Sharie) Steeke of Perham; his 11 grandchildren Darin Carstens, Ryan Carstens, Matthew (Mandy) Carstens, Joshua Damberg, Jacki Damberg, Alexis (Andy) Goeson, Lindsey (Adam) Carlson, Whitney (Tyler) Wegscheid, Michael Steeke, Marissa (Gabe) Pankonin and Mattea Steeke; six great-grandchildren Jada Goeson, Jett Goeson, Jemma Goeson, Jax Goeson, Jade Wegscheid and Graham Carstens; and his sisters-in-law Denise Zepper of Perham and Gloria Rader of Menahga, MN.
Preceding Edward in death were his parents Carl and Amalia Steeke; his mother and father-in-law Fred and Pauline Rader; his brothers Herman Steeke and Emil Steeke; and his sisters Ella Fiedler, Millie Quittschreiber, Emma Papenfuss, Edna Wanderi, Esther Sajovic and Bertha Hofland.
Memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church of Corliss or the American Diabetes Association.
