Duane Richard Papka, age 71, of Perham, MN, died at the St. Mary's Dialysis Center, Detroit Lakes, MN, Friday, February 25, 2005. A memorial service will be Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Dora Township, rural Dent, MN, beginning at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend Larry Schmidt officiating. Burial will take place in Estelline, SD. There will be a time of gathering for family and friends one hour prior to the memorial service at the church on Tuesday.
Duane was born September 27, 1933, the son of William and Myrtle (Olson) Papka, in Estelline, SD. He grew up in White, SD. In 1951, Duane was married to Diane Johnson. They had two daughters, Susan and Cynthia. On October 24, 1954, Duane married Wilma Heath. They are the parents of five sons and three daughters. Duane worked for Peter J. Schweitzer's (Trucking or Transport?) for twenty-three years, starting out in White, SD followed by a move to Browns Valley, MN and then to Breckenridge, MN. When Schweitzer's shut down, Duane drove truck for Wil-Rich and then with Cossette Trucking. He retired in 1997 as a driver for Dave Klose.
Surviving Duane is his wife, Wilma, of Perham, MN; four sons, Steven (Paula), of Wahpeton, ND, Marc, of Breckenridge, MN, Randy, of Brookings, SD, and Mike (Polly), of Mandan, ND; three daughters, Duana (Ed), Meidinger, of Jamestown, ND, Deanna Buttke, of Oakes, ND and Lisa Petersen, of Britton, SD; twenty-six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald, of Tampa, FL and Richard (Karen), of Sioux Falls, SD; one sister, Joyce (Arlo) Swenson, of Surprise, AZ and special daughter and friend, Cindy Umlauf, of Perham, MN.
Preceding Duane in death was one son, Ricky and his parents.
