Funeral services for Dorothy R. Vasconcellos, age 83, of Dent, MN, will be Friday, April 23, 2004, at the United Methodist Church in Dent, MN. The service will begin at 10:30 a.m., with Reverend Roger Parks officiating. Burial will take place in the Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Mt. Auburn, Illinois. Visitation at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, MN, is from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 22, 2004, as well as one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Dorothy died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, MN.
Born in 1920, Dorothy was the first of seven children born to William and Myrtia Reeter, on a farm near Mt. Auburn, Illinois. She attended Illinois State Normal College in Normal, Illinois and later taught all eight grades in a one-room schoolhouse in the area where she grew up. Dorothy married John ?Jack? A. Vasconcellos in 1943. After World War II, they lived in Milwaukee, WI and suburban Chicago, IL. In 1967, the couple moved to the Dent, MN area, residing since then on MacDonald Lake. Dorothy was very active in the Dent United Methodist Church and held numerous offices in the U.M. Women?s Group.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of sixty years, Jack, of Dent, MN; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Bruce Dickson, of College Station, TX; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Doris Mateer, of Taylorville, IL; one brother, Earl Reeter, of Taylorville, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lakeland Hospice, Fergus Falls, MN.
