Memorial services for Donald Albert Larsen, age 89, of Richville, MN, will be Saturday, January 8, 2005, at the United Methodist Church, Richville, MN, beginning at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Rod Tornquist officiating. A time of gathering will be held one hour prior to the memorial service at the church. Burial will take place this spring in the Richville Village Cemetery. Donald died at the Perham Memorial Hospital, Wednesday, January 5, 2005.
Don was born November 12, 1915, the son of Owen and Mabel (Young) Larsen, in Montrose, SD. Don graduated Valedictorian of his class from Humboldt, SD. After school, he worked at Humboldt Supply and helped on his parents' farm. In 1938, Don married Bessie Helberg, of Sioux Falls, SD. They resided in Sioux Falls for a few years before returning to Humboldt. Then, in 1945, they moved to Basswood, MN, where they farmed for thirty-five years. Don enjoyed fishing, computer games, traveling, gardens and their winter home in Texas. He was a school board member of District #265, a church youth counselor and financial committee chairman. Don loved the family gatherings and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Surviving Don is his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Bessie, of Richville, MN; daughter, Donna (George) Nagel, of Richville, MN; son, Ronald Larsen, of Moorhead, MN; foster son, Walter (Linda) Benhardus, of Prior Lake, MN; five grandchildren, Georgia Nagel, David Nagel, Michelle (Chris) Bowers, Sheila (Rob) Jacobson and Stacey (Nate) Chesley; twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding Don in death were his parents and half-brother, Merrel Larsen.
