Dessie Ann Parks, age 73, of Perham, MN, devoted wife and mother, was called from her home to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, May 11, after a lengthy and courageous fight with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 15, at 11:00 am in Calvary Lutheran Church, Perham, MN. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 14, from 4:00-8:00 pm at Calvary with a prayer service at 7:00 pm and also one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday.
Dessie was born in McKinley Township, MN, on March 11, 1934, to Odd and Fidessa (Wilkie) Farbo. She graduated from high school in Lancaster, MN, and earned her Nursing degree from Deaconess College, ND, in 1954.
Dessie's true passion in life was nursing. She began her career at Gilette State Children's Hospital where she met her husband of 50 years. Bill and Dessie were united in marriage on July 7, 1956. Dessie continued her career at St. John's Hospital in the intensive care unit for 7 years. She then became the Director of Nurses at Parkway Manor Nursing Home. Dessie and Bill moved to the Perham area in 1975. Dessie was again nursing at the New York Mills hospital until 1983. She worked at the Perham Memorial Hospital and Home from 1983-1994, when sadly, her illness forced her into early retirement. She was always very partial to "bedside nursing". She loved the one-on-one care.
Dessie has been involved in various services throughout her life; Cub Scout den mother, Lions Club, her Church prayer chain, and the Ladies' Auxiliary.
Dessie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and greatgrandmother. She enjoyed being with the children. She also acquired the dearest life-long friends throughout her journey. Always dedicated and loyal to her family and friends, she was precious to all who knew her. Now she is our angel up above.
Dessie is survived by her husband Bill; three sons, John (Tami Jo), Fort Edward, NY; Jeff (Cindy Kube) Parks, Perham, MN; and Jim Parks, Perham, MN; and one daughter, Jerri (Kevin) Dykhoff, Perham, MN; ten grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren, with one more on the way; two brothers, Bill and Richard (Darlene); and five sisters, Kaye, Gaye (Richard), Pat, Dinah (David), and Eileen.
She is preceded in death by her father, Odd; mother, Fidessa; brothers-in-law, Ray and Lowell; nieces, Tina, Marion, and Debbie; and nephews, Mark and David.
